MALE BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY

Minneapolis Cosmetic Surgery

Gynecomastia is the abnormal development of large mammary glands in males, resulting in breast enlargement. This condition first manifests itself usually in teenage years, but can appear in adulthood with weight gain or from certain medications. Surgical intervention is the only remedy once male breast enlargement appears, as it is usually permanent. This breast tissue usually is mostly glandular, fatty or a combination of both. The choice of operation will be determined after an examination.

Males with gynecomastia are often self-conscious and will seek a plastic surgery consultation. Successful techniques have been fortunately developed. Probably the most useful tool is the power-assisted liposuction system which can vacuum out this tissue. Additional tissue removal can be done through a small incision at the edge of the nipple. This method allows for smooth breast contour.

You unfortunately cannot expect an absolute flat breast even when all goes well. There will always be some breast tissue remaining and some skin sagginess if the man is older or had very large breasts.

There are instances when a second surgery is an option if a person should request further sculpting. If the patient is in his teenage years, and the condition has resulted in peer pressure of teasing, then insurance may cover the procedure.

Patients having male breast reduction will sent home after surgery. Dr. Richard Werner is well versed in the area of male breast reduction. Contact his Edina MN office today for a free cosmetic consultation.
