ABDOMINOPLASTY
Minneapolis Tummy Tucks
An abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a sought-after procedure to improve and restore a person's physical appearance after pregnancy, gastric bypass or any other weight loss or lipodystrophy. There are two operations depending on the condition's severity: a panniculectomy or mini abdominoplasty, the removal of abdominal skin and fat with or without liposuction; or a full abdominoplasty, a larger panniculectomy with a moving of the belly button. The choice of procedure will be determined at the time of a cosmetic consultation.
The incisions for these surgeries are oriented in a side-to-side direction, and despite their length, the incisions heal generally to a fine, narrow line. These incisions are placed so they are hidden visually by current styles of under garments and bathing suits.
If there are associated symptoms, like back pain and skin breakdown, then insurance might deem this a medically necessary surgery. It is performed under general anesthesia, and takes about two hours. If a patient suffers from a mid-line weakness in the muscles, repairing this may add some time. You will be sent home to recover upon completion and bed rest for a week or two is generally ordered.
